Whoever wields this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor
Thor is the second Avenger to be brought to the big screen. There has been much scepticism about Kenneth Branagh’s Thor prior to it’s release, but many critics have shut their traps after watching it.When Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the arrogant and proud Norse god of thunder, nearly brings war to his home world of Asgard, his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) has no choice but to cast him out, forcing him to live as a mortal on Earth until he can once again prove himself worthy of his god-like status, and to wield his great hammer Mjolnir. Once on earth he soon finds help from the bewitchingly beautiful young scientist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), a woman who has been investigating strange atmospheric interferences, which it turns out are actually wormholes caused by the movements of the Asgardians between dimensions. While all this is going on, Loki (Tom Hiddelstone), Thor’s jealous younger brother attempts to overthrow Odin, and take the throne of Asgard for himself. It’s down to Thor to bring the balance back in the universe.
After my doubts of the film, I was pleasantly surprised about Thor 3D.Visually it was fantastic, Asgard had such a god-like aura about it. 3D really did bring out the finer details of the set and CGI. The over all cast were very good, Chris Hemsworth as Thor was electrifying he brought out dimensions of Thor you would only ever see in a Marvel Comic. Truly Marvel Studios picked the right man for the job. Also Anthony Hopkins as Odin was tantalising, you will never see Anthony Hopkins that buff ever again. The plot was simple and obvious but you have to love it. My only complaint is that the ice men’s make up/costumes were very bleugh, they looked like smurfs on steroids. Marvel have announced that Thor II will be filmed after The Avengers, lets hope Marvel keep their hot streak going. Hammertastic!!!!
Keep an eye out for one member of The Avengers in the film
and don’t leave until the end credits have finished
