Star Trek 2 Delayed ?
JJ Abrams has been deftly deflecting questions about the sequel to his Star Trek reboot for some time, with the not-unreasonable justification that all his attention was on Super 8. With Super 8 now out in the big wide world and to hit UK cinemas this August, Abrams has admitted to MTV that perhaps Star Trek 2 may not make its studio-set release date of June 29 2012.A twelve-month turnaround, says Abrams, “is not an impossibility… but no one wants to make something that makes its date but isn’t necessarily worth your time. I want to make sure that whatever we do and whenever it comes out that it’s something that people will have a great time watching.” And while those questions remain not-quite-answered, Abrams still doesn’t know if he’ll be boldly going back to the director’s chair: “I want to make sure I know what it is I’m being asked to direct before I do it, although I’d be jealous of anyone else who got to work with that amazing group of actors. We’re working on the story and getting there. I’m very excited about what Alex and Roberto have come up with so far.” We will just have to wait and see Trekkie’s.
First Muppets Trailer
We’ve had a couple of clever parody trailers for The Muppets, but sooner or later it was going to be time for Kermit and co to deliver a real, honest batch of footage for their new film. Well, it turns out that sooner is actually this weekend, as the first full promo is now live and you can watch it below.
Rock of Ages
While it’s not exactly the first time the world has seen Tom Cruise with long hair – he’s sported extended locks in the likes of Magnolia, Interview With the Vampire and Legend – we’re now getting an early look at him prancing around as OTT rock star Stacee Jaxx in the film adaptation of musical Rock of Ages.Director Adam Shankman has been tweeting pictures from the set for a few weeks now, but this pic cropped up at Tom Cruise’s official blog so that everyone can get a look at the man in full warble, most likely performing Bon Jovi’s Wanted Dead or Alive, which is his character’s main track. In the Rock plot, Cruise’s character is the charismatic, self-obsessed musician who wins over snooty journalist Constance Sack (Malin Akerman) with his shirtless machismo. Hope he’s also got high shoes to wear…The rest of the story concerns a small-town girl (Julianne Hough) arriving in Hollywood seeking her musical dreams, and meeting a wannabe rocker (Diego Boneta). There’s also controversy, as the local officials and a group of developers want to knock down fading rock hotspot the Bourbon Room and begin the gentrification of the Sunset Strip. Bursting with ‘80s hair tunes, the film is shooting now and will be out next year.
Pixar Mystery Film Scheduled
Those sneaky pete types at Pixar are known for being devilishly secretive when it comes to their films in development, but it appears they’ve gone to the extreme this time, announcing a US release date for a new movie – November 27, 2013 – but refusing to offer up any details about what it might be.The studio has Cars 2 arriving next, followed by fairytale saga Brave in 2012 and then prequel outing Monsters University in 2013. But if it holds true, this new date marks the first time that the company will be releasing two movies in a single calendar year. Which had been the plan with Brave and Monsters University, before the latter movie got shoved back. So have your guessing hats at the ready and let us know what you think the Emeryville gang might be up to…
Puss in Boots Trailer Arrives
The teaser trailer has been around for a couple of months now, but we’re finally getting the chance to see some actual footage from Puss in Boots, which charts the early years of Shrek’s feline sidekick. You can check out the new promo below.Featuring the voices of Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek and Zach Galifianakis among others, Puss definitely looks to be keeping the spirit of the Shrek films, albeit shoe-horning in a lot more kitty comedy. But it really does look like a lot of fun, with Banderas’ charismatic tones matched by some solid gags and the promise of enjoyable action. Out in cinemas December 9 th
