It Ends Here
Taken was one of the great surprises on the 21st century, with the success of the first we were in no doubt of getting a trilogy. The studio always denied it but here we are Taken 3 (allegedly the last one). I hated the last Taken, but I am a sucker for a Liam Neeson movie and so is the rest of the world. Well then what is Taken 3 about you may ask? Life has returned to normal for former government covert operative Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) after those traumatic kidnappings. Now he’s keen to reconcile with his wife Lenore (Famke Janssen). But the nightmare begins again when he finds a bloody knife on the floor and Lenore lying dead on the bed! Assuming Bryan is the killer, the police quickly arrest him. But he breaks free and goes on the run, knowing that the real perpetrator will now target the one remaining person he loves most – his daughter Kim (Maggie Grace). Now every law enforcement agency in America is on his tail. But for Bryan, it’s time to use those legendary “very particular skills” to dispense justice to his tormentors once and for all!
As expected this is not a masterpiece, but I can confirm I did prefer this one to the second film. It was very obvious how every scene was going to go, but for a change no one was Taken! The big issue of the film is that it’s basically a crap version of The Fugitive. Neeson is Ford and Whitaker is Jones, the plot for Taken 3 is very bland and dull. But what were we expecting? It’s a popcorn movie to get rid of the winter blues in my opinion. You can’t really critic these kind of films to seriously, it’s just a bit of fun and enjoyment. The action sequences were a bit dodgy everything was rather OTT and the CGI was awful. Neeson and Whitaker did a decent job in their roles. Neeson did all of his own fight sequences allegedly for a man of his age that’s admirable. Whitaker was just wasted talent here, but with his screen time he did the best he could. Maggie Grace annoys me in general, I can imagine her in a B-Movie horror soon. Dougary Scott was also very annoying he just looks sleazy and inevitably his sleaze comes out. I genuinely hope this is the last Taken movie we will ever see but franchises do happen people. If you want to watch a dumb movie just to relax watch it. If not don’t bother.
