Come with me if you want to live!
Terminator is a franchise I hold dear in my heart. The premise of this so called “new trilogy” is slightly painful but also joyous. What made Genisys suspicious was the trailers they have been awful and gave out a lot of spoilers. But like any other Terminator fan we will pay to watch the next film and the next and the next. What is Terminator Genisys about then? In the future, John Connor (Jason Clarke) is the leader of the human resistance against Skynet. After he sends his friend, Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back in time to 1984 in order to protect his mother from a Terminator, an unexpected turn of events creates an altered timeline. This Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) is no longer a normal, everyday waitress, but a skilled fighter with a Terminator guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger) by her side. Now Reese must adjust to a new mission – to reset the future.
Terminator Genisys isn’t as bad as I anticipated. It’s actually quite a lot of fun but it’s nothing on the original two but it’s better than T3 and Salvation. Arnold Schwarzenegger spoke more in Genisys than in all the other three movies he has featured combined here. It was a lot of fun having Arnie back in his most famous role it wasn’t dull it wasn’t boring. He was comical, fearless and just Arnie he is by far a highlight of the film. His Terminator has developed a lot he now has a soul. Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor was a master stroke of casting we had a strong leading performance from her. She fills Linda Hamilton’s shoes very well it seems she has done her homework. Jai Courtney and Jason Clarke were rather dull for me. I am not a fan of Courtney and I never will, he is just boring and has no form of passion in his craft. Jason Clarke is an okish replacement for Christian Bale but his screen-time isn’t capitalized fully. The main cast balance out well, it’s a very loose screenplay not much character development and very two dimensional. But this isn’t a serious film at all this is a summer popcorn movie.
The action sequences are well presented but we do have a lot of angle shots of the same shots (that was pretty annoying). The Golden Gate Bridge scene was enthralling but the CGI was pretty poor, I think they saved the budget for the animated young Schwarzenegger. There was a lot of hype about the young Arnie but the anticipation was cut short as he barely is in the film. The pacing is pretty decent the first and third segments are very entertaining and fast paced. But the middle section is just awful, slow and dull Taylor could of cut at least 15 minutes from the film. Terminator Genisys does feel messy and convoluted in places, it can be confusing and sometimes the effects are ropey but go watch it’s a lot of fun.
