Wow, this is such a big house, but it’s only the two of you here. It’s like the studio didn’t have enough money for another X-Men movie
Deadpool is character Ryan Reynolds has tried to rectify since 2005. Studios have been saying hell no to him, he will never be a commercial success etc. Bring forth leaked test footage and a lot of views will giveth the audience what they desired a 15 rated super hero movie. But wait a minute isn’t that what Kick-Ass was? Deadpool is a character a lot #geeks and #nerds know about *apologize for the sarcasm*, but only from wearing a baseball cap or allegedly reading some comics. Myself I am aware of Deadpool and have never really delved much further into it. So what is Deadpool about? Having cancer in your liver, lungs, prostate and brain all at once isn’t the best shape you can be in. For Wade Wilson, this is a potential death sentence… until he is offered an alternative. The Merc with the Mouth is given a chance to undergo some experimental treatment, leaving him hideously disfigured, but with some crazy new powers.Able to heal at a rapid speed and kick some serious ass, Wade takes on a new identity and a new suit – one that is absolutely NOT green or animated. This superhuman Special Forces operative has a new lease of life and he’s focusing all his attention on one thing: revenge.
Welcome back from the abyss Ryan Reynolds (you guys should watch The Voices too he was great in that), two good movies in a row! You can clearly see Deadpool was a passion project for Mr. Reynolds. He truly comes across as the living embodiment of the character, finally Hal Jordan has been put to bed. Deadpool’s humour is right up my alley. the numerous one liners truly keep the beating heart of the film going. The rest of the cast unfortuatley are second rate compared to Mr. Pool. There is no development in the rest of them nor a lack of sympathy. T.J. Miller was fricking hilarious as Weasel but did he really do anything? The chemistry between Wade and Vanessa was interesting, I did laugh a lot with the love montage of them celebrating different holidays. Hopefully there will be more dimensions to the supporting cast as the no doubt sequel gets penned and filmed. But it’s a great comical ensemble does hide the obvious flaws of the film.
First time director Tim Miller does an admirable job with Deadpool. The film has a good steady flow but it does have quite a lot of pacing issues. It has so much adrenaline filled shots but when it comes to the emotional scenes it becomes rather boring and slow paced. When you think of Deadpool you should think adrenaline, I think they struggled to fill out the time. The comedic aspect is on point as mentioned we have a lot of amazing quotable lines. The action sequences are fantastic too, with a smaller budget Miller has created a great little action flick. The music for Deadpool is great too, such a great mix of genres and taste. The inclusion of Colossus and Negosonic Teenage Warhead was interesting here, it did feel like Fox were trying to remind us of the X-Men. But it’s always welcoming to have Colossus in a film. I did also like the mixture of origin and the present in the film it blended quite well. Deadpool is a great time at the movies, it’s great to see more adult superhero movies rather than the whole righteousness of the 12A’s.
